ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Dry port

Okay kiddo, have you ever played with toy cars and trucks? Imagine that there are big trucks carrying things like toys, food, clothes, and other stuff from one place to another. Sometimes those trucks need to go across big oceans to get to another country. But, how do they get there? That's where "dry ports" come in!

A dry port is a place where big shipping containers that are too big to be transported by regular trucks or trains on the road can be transferred to smaller trucks or trains that can take them to their final destination. It's kind of like a playground for big trucks and trains!

At a dry port, the shipping containers get loaded and unloaded from the big ships that bring them across oceans. Then, they get put onto trains or trucks that can take them to cities or towns all around the country. This way, people can get the things they need from far away places that they wouldn't have been able to get otherwise.

Think of it like this: if you want to play with your friend's toy, but they live very far away, you need someone to bring it to you. In the same way, if you want something from another country, it needs to be brought to you by a big truck or train. But, sometimes those big vehicles can't come all the way to your house, and that's where dry ports come in to help.
