ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Dry-tooling

Ok kiddo, so you know how sometimes people climb mountains or ice walls? Well, sometimes the ice is too thin or there isn't any ice at all. That's where dry-tooling comes in.

Dry-tooling is when climbers use special tools, kind of like picks or axes, to climb without ice. See, these tools have pointy ends and hooks that can dig into rock or other hard surfaces, so climbers can use them to pull themselves up.

It's kind of like having really cool superhero gadgets to help you climb! And even though it's not as slippery and icy as a regular climb, it's still really hard work and takes a lot of strength and skill.

But, just like in any climbing, the most important thing is to be safe and careful. That's why climbers use special gear like helmets and ropes to make sure they don't fall.

So, that's dry-tooling - using special tools to climb without ice, like a superhero!
