ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Duckboards

Duckboards are like little roads that people usually put on the ground to make it easier to walk in places where the ground can be mushy or muddy. They are called "duckboards" because they were first used during World War I to help soldiers walk through the muddy trenches.

Duckboards usually look like long, thin boards that are placed next to each other on the ground. Sometimes they are made out of wood, and other times they are made out of metal or plastic.

When people walk on duckboards, they don't have to worry about getting their shoes or feet dirty, because the boards keep them above the mud or wet ground. It's like walking on a bridge, but instead of crossing a river, you're crossing a muddy or wet area.

So, the next time you see duckboards, remember that they are like little roads that help people walk in muddy or wet places without getting their shoes or feet dirty!
