Dumbing down

Dumbing down is when people make something simpler or easier to understand. It's like when a grown-up explains something to a 5-year-old – they use shorter words and more basic ideas, so it's easier for the 5-year-old to understand. For example, suppose you want to explain what electricity is. You wouldn't use technical words like "voltage," but you might use words like "power" instead--or even simpler words like "energy." That's dumbing it down, so that it's easier to understand.
