E-Verify

E-Verify is like a game of matching. When people want to work in the United States, they need to make sure they are allowed to work. Employers can use E-Verify to check if the information the worker gives them matches with the information the government has.

So, when a person fills out a special form to show they are allowed to work, the employer takes that form and types in some of the information, like their name, date of birth, and Social Security number, into a website called E-Verify.

E-Verify then checks to see if the information matches with what the government has on file. If everything matches, that means the person is allowed to work in the United States! If something does not match, the employer has to tell the person and they have to fix the mistake to try again.
