ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Earth quadrant

Hey there kiddo! So, you know how we live on planet Earth, right? Well, Earth is a pretty big place, and to help us understand it better, scientists came up with a way to divide it into four parts called quadrants.

Think of it like a big pie that's been cut into four pieces. Each piece is a quadrant.

Now, you might be wondering why scientists did this. Well, it's because Earth is so big that it's hard to study everything all at once. So, by dividing it into quadrants, scientists can focus on one part at a time and learn more about it.

Each quadrant is defined by its latitude and longitude coordinates. Latitude is like the horizontal lines on a map, and longitude is like the vertical lines. When these lines meet, they create a grid that splits Earth into quadrants.

So, if someone says they're studying the Earth's northwest quadrant, for example, they're talking about the part of Earth that's in the upper left-hand corner of the grid.

I hope that helps you understand Earth quadrants a bit better, kiddo!
