ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Earth sensor

An Earth sensor is like a really smart toy that helps a spacecraft figure out which way it's pointing towards the Earth. Just like how you can tell which way is up or down or left or right, a spacecraft needs to know which way it's pointing because that helps it move in the right direction.

The Earth sensor uses a special camera to take pictures of the Earth and looks for specific features like clouds, oceans, and land. It then compares what it sees in the picture to what it knows Earth looks like and figures out which way the spacecraft is pointing towards the Earth.

It's kind of like playing a game of I Spy but instead of guessing what object you see, the Earth sensor guesses which way the spacecraft is facing. This helps the spacecraft stay on track and get to its destination safely.
