ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ecological debt

Ecological debt is like a kind of debt between people, but instead it is between countries. It means that some countries need to pay back what they owe to the environment for taking more than they need, or making bad choices. For example, when a country cuts down a lot of trees, they are taking away something that was supposed to stay in nature, and they need to pay back what they owe the environment - like planting trees to replace the ones that were cut down.
