Ecological fallacy

Ecological fallacy is when people draw conclusions about individuals based on statistics describing a group. For example, if a group of people came from a certain area that has a high crime rate, then people might think that each individual in the group is more likely to commit crimes. However, this assumption is not necessarily true, because individuals in the group may not have anything to do with the crime rate in the area.
