ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Egyptian language

Okay kiddo, let me explain Egyptian language to you in a way that you will understand.

The Egyptian language is like a secret code that the ancient Egyptians used to talk and write to each other. They had lots of special little pictures called hieroglyphs that they used to write words and even whole stories.

They wrote on things like walls in temples and tombs, papyrus paper, and even pottery.

Now, you might think that because it's a secret code that no one can understand it anymore. But actually, some really smart people called Egyptologists have been able to figure out what the hieroglyphs mean and how to read them.

They have found lots of important historical information about the ancient Egyptians by translating the hieroglyphs.

So even though the Egyptian language is really old and not used anymore, it still tells us a lot about the people who spoke it and gives us clues about their lives and culture.
