Egyptomania in the United States

Okay, so a long, long time ago there was a really cool place called Egypt. It was a place that had really big pyramids, where kings and queens were buried with all their treasures. The people who lived there were really good at making big, beautiful things out of stones and they had a special form of writing called hieroglyphics.

Many years later, people in America started to get really interested in Egypt. They wanted to learn more about this place and its people because they thought it was fascinating. They started to collect all sorts of things that were inspired by Egypt, like paintings, jewelry, and furniture with Egyptian-looking designs.

People also started to build things that looked like ancient Egyptian buildings and monuments. They even made movies and TV shows that were set in Egypt. This excitement and interest in Egypt, all its treasures, and culture is what we call Egyptomania.

So, in the United States, people loved everything that came from Egypt and it was all over the place. People had Egyptian-inspired furniture, clothes, and even buildings. They liked to pretend they were in Egypt or that they were ancient Egyptians themselves. It was like Egypt had become a fun and exciting world to explore!
