ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Eighth power

Okay kiddo, have you ever learned about exponents in math class? An exponent is a little number that shows how many times we should multiply a number by itself.

For example, if we have 2 raised to the power of 3 (written like 2^3), that means we should multiply 2 three times: 2 x 2 x 2, which equals 8.

Now, if we have 2 raised to the power of 8 (written like 2^8), that means we should multiply 2 eight times: 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2.

When we do all that multiplying, the final answer we get is 256. That's what 2 raised to the eighth power means - it's the same as multiplying 2 by itself eight times.
