ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Elastic fibers

Okay little one, let me explain elastic fibers to you in a simple way. Our body is made up of different tissues and one of these tissues is called connective tissue. Connective tissue is like a glue that holds everything together. Elastic fibers are tiny parts of this connective tissue that are stretchy and can go back to their original shape after being stretched.

Think of a rubber band, when you stretch it, it becomes longer but when you let it go, it goes back to its original shape. That's similar to what happens with elastic fibers. They can stretch and bounce back like a rubber band.

These fibers are found in many different parts of our body such as our skin, lungs, and blood vessels. In the skin, they help our skin to snap back into place after being stretched or pinched. In the lungs, they help us to breathe in and breathe out easily. In the blood vessels, they help our blood vessels to expand and contract.

Without elastic fibers, our body wouldn't be able to move or function properly. We might not be able to breathe as easily and our skin might not be as smooth and elastic. So, it's important to take care of our body and keep these elastic fibers healthy and strong.
