An electricity meter is a device in your home that measures how much electricity you’ve used. It can tell you how much electricity you’re using in a day, month, or year. Your electric company uses the meter to figure out how much you owe them for electricity each month. The meter has a clock in it that counts how much electricity has been used over a certain amount of time. Every time you flick on a light switch or use a gadget like a TV, the meter adds more numbers to the clock inside it, like on a timer counting up. Some meters can even show you how much you’re using in real-time – like a stopwatch that’s constantly running. When your electric company reads the meter, they can tell how much electricity you used since the last time they read it. That’s how they know how much you owe them for power!
