ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ellipsoidal dome

Okay kiddo, so imagine you have a ball, right? The ball is round all over and looks like a perfect circle when you look at it from any direction.

Now, let's pretend we took that ball and squished it down a little bit so that it's not as round anymore. Instead of being a circle, it's a little bit longer in one direction than it is in the other.

That squished ball is kind of like an ellipsoidal dome!

An ellipsoidal dome is a really cool shape that looks like a stretched-out ball. It's kind of like a dome you might see on top of a building, but instead of being perfectly round, it's a little bit longer in one direction.

People like to use ellipsoidal domes for lots of things, like planetariums, sports arenas, and other big buildings. They're strong and sturdy, so they can hold up a lot of weight, and they look really cool too!

Does that make sense, little one?
