ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Email privacy

Email is like a letter that you send from your computer to another person's computer. Just like we don't want someone to read our letters, we also don't want someone to read our emails.

When you write an email, you can choose who to send it to and no one else can see it unless they have your password or are able to hack into your account. It's important to keep your password safe and strong, just like a secret code only you can use.

Also, big tech companies like Google and Microsoft have privacy policies that say they won't read your emails unless they have to, like if someone breaks the law or if you give them permission.

However, some people can send emails that look like they're from someone you know, but they're not really. These are called phishing emails, and they try to trick you into giving away your password or personal information.

To be extra safe, it's important to not click on links or download attachments from people you don't know or trust. And if someone asks for your password or personal information, never give it to them.

Just like we have to be careful with what we say in real life, we also have to be careful with what we write in an email. Always be polite and respectful to others, and don't share anything that you wouldn't want others to see. That way, we can all enjoy our email privacy and feel safe when sending and receiving messages.
