ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Embankment (transportation)

An embankment is a structure that is built up from the ground to act like a road or railway track. It allows vehicles and trains to go over flat land or water, like a bridge. The ground is normally pushed up and made higher with dirt to form a kind of hill or mound, and then rocks and other materials are used to put the embankment together and make it strong enough for vehicles or trains to travel on.
