ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Emergency notification system

Hey kiddo, have you ever heard of an emergency notification system? No? Well, let me explain it to you like you're five years old.

Have you ever noticed that your school, daycare or even your home has an alarm or a bell that rings when it’s time to start class or eat lunch? Emergency notification systems are a little bit like that but instead of ringing when it’s time to start class, they’re used to alert people when there’s an emergency.

So, let’s imagine that there’s a big storm happening outside, and it's dangerous to go outside. But, there might be some people who are outside, playing or going for a walk. The emergency notification system is there to help people know what to do to stay safe.

It works like this: when someone sees an emergency happening, they can call for help, and then the emergency notification system sends a warning message to people nearby- sometimes by loud alarm, sometimes by text message, sometimes by making an announcement on a speaker.

This way people who might not know about the emergency can be warned to stay where they are, find some shelter, or to evacuate the area.

The emergency notification system is like having a superhero looking out for everyone's safety!
