ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Entrapment

Okay kiddo, so entrapment means when someone tricks you into doing something bad that you wouldn't have done otherwise.

It's like if someone told you to steal a cookie from the cookie jar even though you know it's wrong, and then they go and tell your mom or dad that you stole it. That person set you up to get in trouble, and that's called entrapment.

It's not allowed for police officers or other people who have authority to use entrapment to catch bad guys. They have to wait for someone to actually commit a crime on their own before they can arrest them. Otherwise, it's not fair and it can also be against the law.
