Epigraph (literature)

An epigraph is a fancy way of saying a quote or saying that is used at the beginning of a book or chapter. It's like a little clue or hint about what you're going to read, kind of like the message on a treasure map that tells you where to look. The author picks the epigraph and puts it at the beginning of their writing to give you an idea of what the story is going to be about or what it's going to be like. So, the epigraph is like the book's way of saying, "Hey there, get ready because this is what you're in for!"
