Ethnic separatism is when people of a certain ethnicity want to form their own country, or separate from another country, because they feel they would be better off without the other people of different ethnicities who they are living with. Sometimes it's because they want to be able to maintain their own culture and language without interference; other times it's because they feel like they are not treated fairly or given the same opportunities as others in the country. An example of a separatist movement is the Tibetan people's desire to become an independent country after being taken over by China.
