ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Eucharist

Okay kiddo, so you know how we go to church and we hear stories about Jesus and how much he loves us? Well, one of the special things we do in church is called the Eucharist.

The Eucharist is when we receive something very special from the priest called the host. The host is a tiny piece of bread that has been blessed by the priest. This tiny piece of bread represents Jesus. When we eat the host, it's like we are taking a little part of Jesus into our own body, which is pretty amazing when you think about it!

We also drink wine during the Eucharist, which is like getting a special hug from Jesus. The wine has also been blessed by the priest, and it symbolizes the blood that Jesus shed for us when he died on the cross. Drinking the wine reminds us that Jesus loves us so much that he was willing to die for us.

The Eucharist is really important in our faith because it helps us feel closer to God and Jesus. When we eat the host and drink the wine, we are saying to Jesus, "I believe in you, I love you, and I want to be closer to you." It's a special moment that we share with God and with everyone in church.

So, that's the Eucharist - a time when we receive a special gift from God, and we all get a little bit closer to Jesus.
