ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

European languages

Okay, so there are lots of different languages spoken in Europe, just like how there are lots of different flavors of ice cream. Some of the most common ones are English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, and Russian. These languages have different words, sounds, and rules for how to use them.

For example, in English we say "hello" to greet someone, but in Italian they say "ciao." And when we count to ten in English we say "one, two, three," but in German they say "eins, zwei, drei." It's kind of like how different ice cream flavors have different ingredients and tastes.

People in different countries speak different languages because they have their own unique histories and cultures. For example, French is spoken in France because that's where it originated hundreds of years ago, and Spanish is spoken in Spain and many Latin American countries because it was brought over by people from Spain a long time ago.

Learning a new language can be really fun and helpful if you want to travel or talk to people from different parts of the world. And just like trying a new flavor of ice cream, you might discover a new language that you really like!
