Evangelical counsels

Evangelical counsels are beliefs and practices that Christians follow to help them grow closer to God. They aren't required for all Christians, but some people choose to follow them because they help them stay focused on God and living a life that is as holy as possible. The main evangelical counsels are poverty (choosing to not own or use many things), chastity (not having sexual relationships before or outside of marriage) and obedience (following God's word and the teachings of the Church). People who follow these counsels promise to God that they will strive to live a life of holiness, joy, and faithfulness.
