ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ex situ conservation

Ex situ conservation means saving plants and animals outside of their natural environment. All of the living things in the wild live in habitats and ecosystems, but ex situ conservation works by keeping plants and animals in places away from wild habitats like zoos, aquariums, and botanical gardens. This way, people can learn more about the plants and animals and make sure they don't become extinct.
