De-extinction is the process of bringing extinct animals back to life. Scientists can do this by using forms of advanced technology and digging up ancient DNA from bones or fossils of animals that have been extinct for a long time. Once the ancient DNA has been collected, it can be used to make new living creatures that look and act like the extinct species. For example, a species of Woolly Mammoth that used to live on the earth thousands of years ago could be brought back to life with de-extinction.
