Fait accompli

Fait accompli is a French phrase that means "accomplished fact". It usually refers to a situation that has already happened and can't be changed or reversed. For example, if you bought a toy for your five-year-old and she loved it, it's a fait accompli--the toy can't be taken back and your five-year-old is happy!
