Falconry is when someone trains a special type of bird called a falcon to work with them to hunt other animals. Falconry has been practiced for thousands of years in many different cultures around the world.
When someone wants to start practicing falconry, they usually first have to get a license, which means they have to prove they know how to properly care for and train their falcon.
Then they usually get a baby falcon, called a "fledgling," and they start training it to trust and work with them. They do this by spending a lot of time with the bird, feeding it, and letting it perch on their hand.
Eventually, the falcon grows up and becomes big and strong. The person who owns the falcon then takes it out hunting with them. The falcon will fly high up into the sky and search for prey, like a mouse or rabbit. When the falcon spots something, it will dive down at an incredibly fast speed and catch the prey in its claws.
The person who owns the falcon then takes the prey away from the bird and gives it a reward, like a special treat. This helps the falcon learn that if it works hard and catches prey, it will get a reward.
Falconry is a very special skill that requires a lot of patience and hard work, but it can be very rewarding for both the person and the falcon involved.
