Firewood

Firewood is wood that we burn to create heat, light and fire. Sometimes we burn firewood in fireplaces, wood stoves or in campfires so we can cook food or keep ourselves warm.

Firewood comes from trees. Trees are really big and tall plants that grow in forests. When we cut down a tree, we get wood, which we can turn into firewood. But before we can burn the wood, we need to let it dry out or season. This means we need to leave it out in the sun and wind for a few months so it doesn't contain moisture, which can cause the wood to not burn properly and make lots of smoke.

The best type of wood for firewood is hardwood, like oak or maple. Softwood, like pine or fir, burns hotter and faster but also creates more smoke that can make our eyes sting and make us cough.

It's important to remember that we need to be safe when we use firewood. We should never start a fire inside our houses without proper ventilation or outside on really dry days or in areas where there is a risk of forest fires. We should also be careful when we stack and move firewood because it can be heavy and we don't want to get hurt.

So in summary, firewood is wood that we burn to create fire and heat, it comes from trees, we need to let it dry out before we burn it and we should always be safe when we use it.
