Flue-gas emissions from fossil-fuel combustion

Hey there little one, so when we use things like coal, oil or gas to make electricity, we create something called flue-gas emissions. Now, these are not good for the environment because they contain things like carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, and other harmful gases.

Think of it like when you breathe out air after playing hard, it may contain some bad stuff that can make someone else sick if they inhale it.

So, when we burn fossil fuels like coal or oil, it creates heat which helps create energy to power our homes and cities. But those gases I mentioned earlier come out of the power plant and mix into the air we breathe, making the air less healthy for us and the animals we share our planet with.

That’s why scientists and governments are working hard to find ways to reduce these emissions or find cleaner alternative sources of energy like wind or solar power. Because we all deserve fresh, clean air to breathe!
