The Freedom Riders National Monument is a special place in Alabama that honors the brave people who were called Freedom Riders. Freedom Riders were people in the 1960s who rode buses and traveled through the South to stand up for the rights of African Americans. They risked their lives to fight for justice and equality and helped change the laws so that African Americans and other minorities could have the same rights as everyone else. The monument was built to remember their courage and bravery.
