Freon

Freon is a type of gas that is used in things like air conditioners and refrigerators to keep them cold. Imagine you have a toy fridge, and you want to keep your juice box cold inside it. You can't just put ice cubes in there because they will melt and make a mess. Instead, you can use a special gas like Freon to cool down the fridge.

Freon is actually made up of several different gases mixed together, kind of like how you mix paints to get different colors. But when you put Freon into a fridge or air conditioner, it stays as a gas and helps to absorb heat from inside the fridge and move it outside. This makes the inside of the fridge or air conditioner colder.

However, Freon can be bad for the environment because it can contribute to something called ozone depletion, which can cause problems like global warming. That's why people are trying to use other types of gases that are safer for the environment instead of Freon.
