Frost flower

Okay kiddo, imagine that you're outside on a chilly winter morning and you see some really cool ice crystals forming on the ground. This is what we call a frost flower!

You know how when water gets really cold it turns to ice, right? Well, when the air is really cold and dry it can cause patches of ice to form on the ground. But sometimes, when the temperature is just right, something really special happens.

Tiny droplets of water in the air can freeze onto the ice and start to build up just like a snowflake. But instead of making a regular shape like a snowflake, the ice crystals start to layer on top of each other and form these beautiful, delicate looking "flowers" made entirely out of ice!

Frost flowers are really rare and only form under very specific circumstances, so if you ever see one you should take a moment to appreciate how cool it is!
