Gallicanism

Gallicanism is an idea that started in France in the 1600s. It's the idea that the Catholic Church in France should have more power than the pope in Rome. It also said that the Catholic Church in France should be independent of the pope, so that the king of France could make decisions about the Church without the pope's approval. This idea was popular in France because the kings at the time wanted to have more control over the Church.
