Garden hose thread

Okay kiddo, have you ever used a garden hose to water plants or play with in the yard? Well, the part on the end of the hose that attaches to the faucet or spigot is called the fitting. The fitting is like a puzzle piece that needs to fit perfectly onto the faucet so water can flow through it and come out the other end of the hose.

Now, garden hose thread is the type of threading used on the fitting. It's like a bunch of tiny lines on the inside of the fitting that help it screw onto the faucet really tightly. Similar to how your toys have to fit together to work properly, the garden hose fitting needs to fit onto the faucet with the same thread pattern.

There are a few different types of garden hose threads, but the most common one in the United States is called National Pipe Thread (NPT) and it has a sort of tapered shape that helps create a watertight seal with the faucet.

So, when you attach your garden hose to the faucet and turn the water on, you can thank the garden hose thread for helping it fit snugly and letting the water flow through your hose!
