Gas flare

Okay kiddo, so imagine you have a toy that you like to play with, but sometimes the toy gets a little too hot and you can't play with it anymore.

Well, the same thing happens with oil and gas. When companies drill for oil and gas, sometimes the gas that they find is too hot or too dangerous to use, which means they can't sell it or use it to make things like electricity or fuel.

So, what do they do with it? They burn it! They set the gas on fire, which creates a big flame that you might see if you're near an oil rig or refinery. This flame is called a "gas flare."

Now, burning gas might sound cool, but it's actually not great for the environment. It releases harmful gases like carbon dioxide and can contribute to climate change.

So, some people are working to find ways to capture the gas and use it for energy instead of just burning it. That way we can use this resource without hurting the planet.
