Gene pool

A gene pool is a collection of all the different genes in a population of living things. Genes can be passed from one generation to the next, and this collection of all the genes that are passed down is called the gene pool. Imagine if you had an empty bucket and wanted to mix all your friends' colors together. You would take a little bit of each friend's color and put it into the bucket. This bucket is like the gene pool. It is full of all the different colors that each of your friends have. The same thing happens when living things, like animals, pass on their genes. Each animal has a little bit of the gene pool, and when those genes mix it creates a new group of genes that all work together.
