George Washington Carver

George Washington Carver was an African-American inventor and scientist who lived in the 1800s. He was born into slavery but he was very smart and became the first African-American to receive a college degree. Carver's main work was in agriculture and he developed new ways to grow crops that helped many farmers in the south become successful. He also created over 100 products from peanuts and sweet potatoes. Carver's work helped make the south more prosperous and his inventions are still used today.
