ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Geosphere

The geosphere is the part of the planet that includes the solid Earth, the rocks and minerals under our feet, the mountains, and even the dirt and sand. It's basically everything that's not water or air.

So, remember when you went to the park and you saw rocks on the ground? All those rocks are part of the geosphere. And when you go to the beach, the sand is also part of the geosphere.

The Earth is made up of layers, and the geosphere is the outermost layer that we can see and touch. It's really important because it's where all the nutrients for plants come from, and it's where we find different kinds of fossil fuels, like coal and oil, that we use to make energy.

The geosphere is always changing, too. Remember when you saw a mountain and it looked different than the last time you saw it? That's because of erosion, which is when wind, rain, and other forces wear away at the rock over time.

Overall, the geosphere is a really big and important part of our planet, and we need to take care of it!
