Geothermal energy in the United States

Geothermal energy is a special kind of energy that comes from deep underground where it is very hot. In the United States, there are a lot of places where the earth is very hot and we can use that heat to make electricity.

It's like when you boil water on the stove to make tea. You use a lot of heat to make the water hot, right? Well, the Earth has a lot of heat inside it, so people can drill down into the ground to where it’s really hot, and they can use that heat to create steam.

The steam is captured and sent up to turn giant turbines that make electricity, like windmills do. So instead of using coal or gas to make electricity, we can use steam from the Earth to make electricity.

The United States is lucky because it has a lot of places where there's heat near the surface, especially in the western part of the country like California and Nevada. So, we have the potential to use a lot of geothermal energy to make our electricity.

It's also good because you don't have to use any fuel to make geothermal energy, and it’s much less harmful to the environment than burning fossil fuels like coal and gas. So, it's a very clean and Earth-friendly way to create energy.
