Great Apostasy

The Great Apostasy is a period in history when many people stopped following the teachings of Jesus Christ and the leaders of the Church He had set up. These people didn't believe in His teachings or know how to follow them, so the Church became scattered and people split into different groups that all had different beliefs. Eventually, this led to the need for someone to come and re-establish the Church and teach people how to follow Jesus Christ again. This is what happened when Jesus sent a prophet named Joseph Smith to restore the Church and help people to gain a better understanding of Jesus Christ.
