ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Grounding in communication

Grounding in communication is a way of making sure the person you are talking to understands what you are saying. It's like checking to make sure the message you sent got to the right place. For example, if you said "I want to get ice cream," you would ground your communication by saying, "Did you hear what I said? I said I want to get ice cream." This is to make sure the other person heard you and didn't get the message wrong.
