ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Group polarization

Group polarization is when a group of people discuss an issue or opinion and all of them become more extreme in their beliefs than they were before. It happens because when people are talking about something, they often agree with each other and soon everyone starts to think in the same way. This can cause the group to become more extreme and more firmly convinced that their opinion is right. It's like everybody moves in the same direction and that's what's called "group polarization".
