ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Gymnastics

Gymnastics is a sport where people jump, flip, twist, turn and balance on mats, bars, beams, and other equipment. Athletes in gymnastics show off their strength, flexibility, and coordination through tricks, routines, and poses.

When you see a gymnast, they are usually in a special gym that has soft mats and equipment like bars or balance beams. They practice different moves and routines over and over until they get really good at them.

Some of the things that gymnasts do include flips, somersaults, and cartwheels. They also do things like handstands, backbends, and splits. And the higher level gymnasts will do really hard things like backflips on the balance beam or twists and turns in the air before landing on the floor.

Gymnasts also compete against each other. They perform their routines in front of judges who give them scores based on how well they did. They might also compete in teams, where a group of gymnasts work together to do a routine.

Gymnastics is a really cool sport because it takes a lot of practice and dedication to get good at it. But once you learn different moves and routines, you get to show them off in front of people and feel really proud of yourself. Plus, it's a great way to stay active and healthy!
