ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Hangover

Okay kiddo, so sometimes when grown-ups drink too much of something like beer or wine, they can sometimes feel really bad the next day. This feeling is called a hangover.

Imagine that your body is like a car that needs gas to run. When you drink, your body works really hard to process the alcohol (which is like the fuel in your car). But just like a car needs to cool down after a long drive, your body needs time to rest and recover after processing all that alcohol.

When you have a hangover, you might feel really tired, thirsty, and have a headache. This is because the alcohol can make it hard for your body to stay hydrated (that means to have enough water in your body). Your stomach might also feel upset, like you have a tummy ache.

But don't worry! There are some things you can do to help your body feel better. You can drink lots of water or juice to stay hydrated, and eat something healthy like fruit or eggs to give your body energy. Sometimes, taking a nap or resting can also help your body recover faster.

Remember, it's always important to drink responsibly and ask for grown-up help if you or someone you know has had too much to drink.
