ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Harold Joachim

Harold Joachim was a very smart man who studied and wrote about philosophy, which is like thinking really hard about the big questions in life. He was born a long time ago in 1868 and lived in England, where he taught at a university called St. John's College. He was very interested in things called metaphysics and epistemology, which are big words that mean he wanted to understand how we know things about the world and what the world is really like.

Joachim also wrote a lot about ethics, which is about what's right and wrong, and aesthetics, which is about what's beautiful and why. He was a big fan of a philosopher named Immanuel Kant, who believed that there are some things that are always right or wrong, no matter what, and that we can use our minds to figure out what those things are.

Overall, Harold Joachim was a very important philosopher who helped us think about some of the biggest questions in life, like how we know what we know and what we should do to be good people.
