ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Healthy eating pyramid

Imagine that our body is like a house and it needs different things to stay strong and healthy, just like a house needs different kinds of blocks and materials to stand up sturdy. This is where the healthy eating pyramid comes in, it helps us know what we should be eating every day to keep our body healthy and strong like a sturdy house.

At the bottom of the pyramid, you see the biggest block which is green and represents vegetables and fruits. These are like the building blocks that make up the foundation of our house or body. We need a lot of them to stay healthy, so we should try to eat them with every meal or snack.

Next, we have the orange block which represents grains such as rice, pasta, and bread. These are like the walls of our house, they keep everything together and help us feel full and energized. We need enough of them to keep our body going throughout the day.

Then we have the blue block which stands for protein which are foods like meat, fish, beans, and cheese. These are like the doors and windows of our house, they let important things in and out, like oxygen and nutrients. Protein helps our body grow, repair itself, and stay strong so it's important to eat enough of it.

Finally, we have the yellow block which represents sweets, cakes, and other sugary things. These are like a decoration in our house, not something we need to focus on too much. We can have them sometimes but not too often because they don't help us grow or stay strong.

So, to stay healthy, we should focus on eating a lot of fruits and vegetables, enough grains and protein, and limit the sweets and sugary things. And just like building a house, it helps to have a good plan and stick to it to make sure we're getting everything we need for a healthy body.
