ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Healthy diet

A healthy diet means eating foods that are good for your body and help you grow strong and healthy. Just like when you are building a tower with blocks and you need different colors and shapes to make it strong and sturdy, your body needs many different types of food to be healthy.

Fruits and vegetables are like the colorful building blocks that help you grow and protect your body from germs. Eating different colors of fruits and vegetables every day (like a rainbow!) gives you lots of vitamins and minerals which are like the special magic that keeps your body working properly.

Proteins are like the bricks that help build and repair muscles, skin, and bones. You can find protein in foods like meat, fish, eggs, beans, and nuts.

Carbohydrates are like the energy that makes your body go zoom! They come from foods like bread, pasta, and grains. Just like cars need gasoline to move, your body needs carbohydrates for energy.

Healthy fats are like the special helpers that keep your body working well. They come from things like avocado, nuts, and olive oil. They can help keep your heart healthy and keep your brain sharp.

Finally, sugar is a type of sweet stuff that can be found in things like candy, drinks, and desserts. Just like you only need a little bit of frosting on your cake, your body only needs a little bit of sugar to be healthy. Too much sugar can make your body feel yucky.

So remember, if you want to be strong, healthy, and feel good, eat lots of colorful fruits and vegetables, proteins, carbohydrates, healthy fats, and only a little bit of sugar.
