ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Hibachi

Hibachi is a very cool way to cook food that comes from Japan. It is a way of cooking food on a big flat table called a grill.

Imagine that you are playing with your toy cars on a long flat table with a hot, searing grill in the middle. Suddenly, someone comes along, and with lots of excitement, starts putting lots of yummy ingredients, such as meat, vegetables, and rice on the hot grill in front of you, and starts to cook it all up using large spatulas and knives. They flip and turn it around with lots of skill, and make sure it all gets cooked perfectly.

You’ll get to see all the action up close, and may even get sprayed with some cool water from a bottle (just like a water gun!) as the chef cooks up your food.

When the food is all done, your chef will put it on your plate, and you can eat it up with lots of delicious sauces to make it even yummier. It’s like watching a really cool magic show, but instead of magic tricks, you get to eat some amazing food cooked right in front of you!
