Higher alkanes

Hello little one! Today we are going to learn about higher alkanes. First, let's talk about what an alkane is.

An alkane is a type of molecule made up of carbon and hydrogen atoms. These atoms are like building blocks that create the molecule.

Now, imagine a tower made out of blocks. The more blocks you add, the taller the tower gets. The same idea applies to alkanes.

Higher alkanes are just alkanes that have more carbon and hydrogen atoms than lower alkanes. It's like adding more blocks to make a taller tower.

The higher the number of carbon atoms in an alkane, the more complex it becomes. These complex molecules can be found in things like gasoline, natural gas, and even in the waxes that help make candles burn.

So, to put it simply, higher alkanes are just bigger molecules made up of carbon and hydrogen atoms. And just like adding more blocks to a tower, adding more carbon atoms to an alkane makes it bigger and more complex. Isn't science cool?
